Job/Internship Description

The Innovation and Development Division (IDD) drives the innovation strategy for the Hubs and Operations, and contributes to the Group's transformation. It is responsible for imagining, developing and incubating new solutions until they are brought to market, particularly when it comes to offers with a high technological content (including digital and IT). IDD gathers more than 3,000 employees from 70 nationalities at 60 sites.

How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

Air Liquide Advanced Separations (ALaS) manufactures a comprehensive line of membrane products for natural gas and associated petroleum gas treatment. Our product portfolio includes the most robust and efficient hollow fiber membranes in the industry. Working at the Newport manufacturing facility, the Process Engineering Intern will immerse themselves in the heart of innovation and gain hands-on experience in the production of our world-class membranes!

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with quality control: Analyze process data, identify trends and potential issues, troubleshoot defects, and implement corrective actions.

  • Support process improvements: Assist engineers in process optimization analysis, and develop clever, novel solutions to improve membrane quality and efficiency.

  • Work hands-on in the manufacturing environment: Jump into the action with hands-on involvement on the factory floor. Monitor real-time processes and process control, troubleshoot equipment, and run hands-on experiments.

  • Learn and document manufacturing processes: Learn procedures for controlled documentation and assist in creating and updating process flowcharts, work instructions, and other documentation.

  • Other engineering tasks: Shadow experienced team members on the production floor to understand manufacturing processes. Work independently as well as with cross functional teams (including but not limited to engineering, manufacturing, safety, quality). Develop a working understanding of manufacturing, quality control, and safety. Prepare presentations and reports to summarize findings.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering

  • Academic Grade Level: Junior/Senior/Graduate

  • Academic excellence with a maintained minimum 3.0 GPA.

  • Demonstrate strong process and operational safety behavior at all times.

  • Demonstrate exceptional problem-solving abilities and attention to detail

  • Ability to work with databases, spreadsheets, SPC, and other computerized tools

  • Ability to communicate effectively with various teams, and turn complex ideas into clear and actionable plans

  • A self-starter who can maintain effective working relationships with all groups within the company.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior internship experience, preferably at a manufacturing site

WORKING (Physical) CONDITIONS

  • Work Environment requires PPE and other safety attire, shoes

  • Standing for long periods of time

  • Sitting for long periods of time

  • Use of Computer (audio/visual equipment)

  • Exposure to Chemicals
